Oliver Cobb

(1905 - 1930)

A trumpeter, vocalist, and bandleader active in St. Louis, Oliver Cobb formed his own "Rhythm Kings" group modeled after Louis Armstrong's band. The talented trumpeter and this group made their first recordings in Chicago during August of 1929. Oliver Cobb's promising career came to an abrupt halt in 1930 when he drowned in the MIssissippi River near Davenport, Iowa.
