Jimmie Noone

(April 23rd 1895 - April 19th 1944)

Born in in Cut Off, Louisiana Jimmie Noone was a guitarist who switched to clarinet when his family moved to New Orleans around 1910. He studied under Lorenzo Tio Sr. and began playing professionally in Storyville with Freddie Keppard in 1913. Jimmie relocated to Chicago in 1918 where he played for two years with Paul Barbarin and King Oliver, at the Royal Garden Cafe followed by a six year stint with "Doc Cook's Dreamland Orchestra". In 1926 Jimmie Noone began leading his own all star group employed as the houseband at Chicago's Apex Club.
