"To New York and Back"

This side was recorded in New York City on July 9th 1920 featuring Art Hickman pianist & drummer and his Orchestra.

*"Tell Me, Little Gypsy" was written by Irving Berlin.

Equally at home playing the drums or seated at the piano bench bandleader Art Hickman formed his first band, a sextets, in San Francisco in 1913. In 1915 after playing the World's fair he and his band accepted an invitation to travel to New York and play at a night club located on the roof top of the New Amsterdam Theater. The club's owner was none other than Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. and over the course of the next year Hickman's Orchestra would also work providing accompaniment for the Ziegfeld Follies before their return to California. Once back home Hickman's band had steady work playing at the St. Francis Hotel and the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.
