This recording was produced in Chicago on July 7th 1928 featuring Bix Beiderbecke cornet, Bill Rank trombone, Izzy Friedman clarinet, Min Leibrook bass sax, Lennie Hayton piano, and George Marsh drums.

*"Ol' Man River" was composed by Jerome Kern, with words by Oscar Hammerstein II.

The song was originally performed at Ziegfeld Theater in the 1927 musical "Show Boat".

The two act Kern-Hammerstein production is based on Edna Ferber's best-selling novel of the same name and follows the lives of performers and dock workers on a Mississippi River show boat named the "Cotton Blossom" over a forty year period beginning in 1887.

This highly successful musical has since been cited as a turning point for Broadway when compared to the unrealistic musical comedies that would define the New York stage during the early part of the 20th Century.
