Ellis at the Keys

This piano solo was recorded in Camden, New Jersey on August 10th 1925 featuring Seger Ellis.

*"Freight Yard Blues" was composed by Seger Ellis.

The pianist's eccentric style really comes to life in this unissued take from his Camden sessions. This slow blues starts out similarly to some of Ellis' other works but variety is soon added in the form of an intriguing diminished turnaround (at the end of the first minute) followed by a stop-time break reminiscent of Jelly Roll Morton's "Jungle Blues". Having proven his skills a as professor to be reckoned with Seger resolves to the main theme triumphant all-the-while providing new exciting variations.
