Recorded in Savannah, Georgia on August 23rd 1927 featuring Sugar Underwood piano.

*"Dew Drop Alley Stomp" was composed by Mathew Emanuel Underwood.

This is a very difficult performance to recreate. -To see pianist and jazz scholar Brad Kay tackle it Click Here.

After playing on a few sides with the "Jacksonville Harmony Trio" at his first and only recording session held on August 23rd 1927, Sugar was asked to cut a couple of sides himself. In a matter of a few minutes and three known takes, he laid down two tracks "Dew Drop Alley Stomp" and "Davis Street Blues". As one historian put it, the recordings "proved that he knew virtually all there was to know about playing stomps and blues".
