"Josie's Revenge"

Recorded in New York City on November 21st 1924 with Josie Miles vocals, Johnny Dunn trumpet, Jake Frazier trombone, Bob Fuller clarinet, Louis Hooper piano, and Elmer Snowden banjo.

*"Mad Mama's Blues" was written by Spencer Williams under the pseudonym Duke Jones.

This side was produced at Josie Miles' second session accompanied by "The Kansas City Five", but this time around trumpeter Bubber Miley is replaced by Johnny Dunn. With lyrics plotting murderous revenge against oppression sure to shock any listener of the period, this one could easily be cataloged among the most violent songs of its day. It is still a bit hard to believe that this is the same Josie Miles who gave up show business in the early '30's to devote her life to the church.
