This side was recorded in Chicago on October 5th 1927 featuring Natty Dominique cornet, Johnny Dodds clarinet, Jimmy Blythe piano & leader, Bud Scott banjo, and Baby Dodds washboard.

*"Hot Stuff" was composed by Jimmy Blythe.

Consummate small band director Jimmy Blythe leads a group of top New Orleans jazz musicians under the name "Blythe's Owls." Throughout the 1920's he worked as a talent scout for various record labels. Originally from Kentucky, Blythe moved to Chicago in 1917 where he found employment at the Mavis Talcum Powder Company and began studying piano under the tutelage of Clarence M. Jones in his free time.

As his musicianship further developed Chicago was rapidly becoming "the" cultural hot bed of jazz and the pianist had no trouble at all finding the very best musicians with whom to perform and record his original compositions.
