This piano solo was recorded in New York City on January 29th 1929 with James P Johnson at the keys.

*"Riffs" was composed by James Price Johnson.

James P. Johnson made important contributions to the development of jazz as a pioneer of stride piano.

Like Jelly Roll Morton his early career bridged the transition in popularity from ragtime to jazz.

A productive composer, among his most famous works are his collaborations with Cecil Mack including "The Charleston" and "Old Fashioned Love." Both songs debuted in the 1923 Broadway musical "Runnin' Wild".
