"Basin Street Blues" performed live in Sydney, Australia in March 1963 featuring Louis Armstrong trumpet & vocals, Trummy Young trombone, Joe Darensbourg clarinet, Billy Kyle piano, Arvell Shaw bass, and Danny Barcelona drums.

Late in his career the legendary Louis Armstrong and his band deliver a sensational heartfelt rendition of the classic New Orleans standard "Basin Street Blues".

Born from the humblest of beginnings in New Orleans and abandoned as an infant by his father Louis Armstrong grew up in abject poverty, yet rose to become the most famous jazz horn player of all time.

After traveling to Chicago in 1922 to play with the band of Joe "King" Oliver, Armstrong first rose to super-stardom when he relocated to New York City in 1924. There he had been hired by the "Fletcher Henderson Orchestra" and became an immediate sensation as their featured soloist before eventually leaving the group to return to The Windy City.
