This recording was produced in New York City on June 7th 1927 by featuring Evelyn Preer vocals, Ed Anderson and Henry 'Red' Allen trumpets, Charlie Irvis trombone, Albert Socarras soprano sax, Clarence Williams piano, Cyrus St. Clair tuba, and Floyd Casey drums.

*"Slow River" was composed by and Charles M. Schwab, Edgar Fairchild, and Arthur Schwartz, with lyrics written by Henry Myers.

Evelyn Preer was a pioneering actress and blues singer with a career which began in the 1910s and lasted through the early 1930s. Evelyn was the fist African- American actress to gain popularity though her numerous silent films and became known within the black community as "The First Lady of the Screen". Many of her films were directed by influential early black film maker Oscar Micheaux, who himself was dubbed "Father of Afro-American Cinema", including her most well-known picture "Within Our Gates" produced in 1920.
