Feat. Joe Sanders

This recording was made in Chicago on May 29th 1928 by the "Nighthawks Orchestra" led by Joe Sanders piano & vocals, and Carleton Coon drums.

*"Ready For The River" was composed by Neil Moret, with words written by Gus Kahn.

Beginning as a sorrowful lament the lyricist couldn't resist poking fun at the thought of a man deliberately drowning himself in the shivery waters of a mighty river. After getting his worldly affairs in order in preparation for his demise, this song offers the melodramatic line "'Gonna keep a walkin' till my straw hat floats".
