"1929 Vitaphone Short"

In the 1929 Vitaphone short "Ben Pollack & His Park Central Orchestra" Ben Pollack and his band perform a set of three songs for the camera.

Conducted by vocalist Ben Pollack, the other members of his band are Jimmy McPartland trumpet & vocals, Ruby Weinstein trumpet, (a 20 year old) Benny Goodman plays clarinet, alto, and baritone sax, with his brother Harry Goodman on string bass, Larry Binyon, clarinet, tenor, soprano sax, & flute, Gil Rodin clarinet, alto, baritone, & soprano sax, William Schumann cello, Ed Bregman and Al Beller violins, Vic Briedis piano, Dick Morgan guitar & vocals, Ray Bauduc drums, and Jack Teagarden who not only plays trombone but also sings in his own inimitable way. He even plays vibraphone.

The selections they perform are as follows: "California Echoes", "My Kind Of Love", and
"Song of the Island".

This talking picture was originally filmed during July 1929 at Vitaphone Studios in Brooklyn, New York, once located at the intersection of East 14th Street & Avenue M. It was directed by Murray Roth.
