Varsity Eight

A name used by the "California Ramblers" group when appearing on the Cameo label for recordings produced between 1923 and 1931. As their name implied many of the selections performed were of a collegiate nature consisting of dance oriented tunes often peppered with harmonized singing from the entire band. By 1930 the group's manager and vocalist Wallace T. "Ed" Kirkeby dominated this group and also led similar bands under his own name.
