Feat. Charlie Johnson

Recorded in Chicago on July 2nd 1928 featuring Punch Miller trumpet, Charles Lawson trombone, Charles Johnson clarinet & alto sax, Tiny Parham piano & celeste, Charlie Jackson banjo, Quinn Wilson bass brass, and Ernie Marrero drums & washboard.

*"Cuckoo Blues" was composed by Hartzell 'Tiny' Parham

Beginning with a familiar lilting rhythm speckled with the chime of piano keys reedman Charlie Johnson takes the first solo break. With the next brief interjection coming from Punch Miller, Lawson's trombone soon gets its chance. Perhaps in emulation of the call of the crazy Cuckoo bird, Charlie Johnson returns with a long winded note on the clarinet. Ernie Marrero breaks things up with a stop-time drum flourish as a prelude to the piano solo from the band's leader Tiny Parham.
