Shotgun Jazz Band

A group founded in New Orleans around 2009 by trumpeter & vocalist Marla and (her husband) banjoist John Dixon these street musicians have derived inspiration from the records of traditional jazz performers including George Lewis, Billie & DeDe Pierce, and Kid Thomas Valentine. Beginning in their early days in the open air of the French Market the "Shotgun Jazz Band" currently hold weekly residencies at local clubs: The Spotted Cat, Maison Frenchmen, and Three Muses. Spirited vocalist and horn player Marla, John, and their bare bones ensemble have been praised for a no-nonsense approach to their craft even by those who don't normally enjoy vintage jazz as one of the latest and greatest additions to the resurgence of tradition among younger New Orleanians.
