Feat. Miff Mole

This recording was produced in New York City on January 23rd 1925 featuring Red Nichols trumpet, Miff Mole trombone, Benny Krueger alto & c-melody sax, Rube Bloom piano, Harry Reser banjo, Gus Helleberg bass brass, and Harry Lottman drums.

*"How Come You Do Me Like You Do?" was composed by Gene Austin and Roy Bergere.

The "Tennessee Tooters" were a musical group organized by Rube Bloom for the sole purpose of taking part in a series of recording sessions for the Vocalion label arranged by Harry Reser. Attending their debut session two days before Christmas in 1924 with an original line-up that included Benny Krueger and Red Nichols.

For "The Tooters'" second session (held exactly one month later) Miff Mole was added replacing Vincent Garnde and he assumed control of the seven piece band for their exceptional instrumental rendering of "How Come You Do Me Like You Do?" Miff's performance here is truly unsurpassed in recorded history as an example of his unique trombone technique. Following a particularly punchy piano break from Rube Bloom, the relatively new saxophone star Benny Krueger takes a fine solo of his own showing off his exceptional tonal control. Up next Miff takes what is perhaps one of his best known solo efforts and really conquers this record. Then it's back to Krueger for another round of emotive reed prowess leading into the grand finale played by the entire ensemble. -Matt Chauvin

This tune was arranged by Will Vodery an African American conductor, composer and orchestrator employed at New York's Broadhurst Theater. Other pieces to his credit as an arranger included music from the "Ziegfeld Follies" in addition to the more recently successful Broadway show "From Dixie To Broadway".
