This side was recorded in New York City on April 20th 1923 with Phil Napoleon trumpet, Miff Mole trombone, Jimmy Lytell clarinet, Frank Signorelli piano, Bill Arenburg banjo, John Helleberg tuba, and Jack Roth drums.

*"When Will the Sun Shine for Me?" was composed by Abner Silver, with words by Benny Davis.

"The Cotton Pickers" was the generic name given by Brunswick to its performers of blues and fox trots throughout the 1920's. It was used on a considerable number of issues in spite of a broadening range of repertoire and a number of personnel changed. The trumpeter for the first generation of records under "The Cotton Pickers" name was Phil Napoleon, a formally trained musician with a powerful yet clean style. He was already well known to recording executives through his work with bandleader Sam Lanin, and with the "Original Memphis Five."
