"Jazzin' with Ma"

This side was recorded in Chicago in December 1927 featuring Gertrude "Ma" Rainey vocals, accompanied by her "Georgia Jazz Band" featuring Shirley Clay cornet, Albert Wynn trombone, Artie Starks clarinet, unknown piano & speech, and unknown drums.

*"Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" was written by Gertrude 'Ma' Rainey.

Although her style of singing began to fall out of favor with the public by the late 1920's, Ma Rainey had earned enough money touring to retire in 1935. Returning to her hometown of Columbus, Georgia, the blues singing star opened two theaters "The Lyric" and "The Airdrome" which she also managed herself. Remembered as a shrewd business woman Ma would continue to operate these establishments successfully until her death from a hear attack four years later.
