Luis Russell

(August 6th 1902 - December 11th 1963)

A pianist born in Careening Cay, Panama who moved to New Orleans after winning $3000 in a lottery in 1919. He later became a prominent New York bandleader associated with early Swing and worked as a musical director for Louis Armstrong.
