2017 San Diego Jazz Fest

Filmed in San Diego, California on November 26th 2017 at the "San Diego Jazz Festival" featuring Marc Caparone trumpet, Jonathan Doyle tenor sax, Kris Tokarski piano & leader, Larry Scala guitar, Nobu Ozaki string bass, and Hal Smith drums. -Recorded by Michael Steinman.

Starting out with a moderate bounce piano scholar Kris Tokarski is soon joined by the rest of his assembly fronted by trumpeter Marc Caparone. The pianist plays his solo in a style somewhat reminiscent to that of Jelly Roll Morton who had recorded this song himself during the late 1930's for the Library of Congress with the aide of Alan Lomax. Tenor saxophonist Jonathan Doyle serves to further enhance their performance providing a robust fullness complete with a beautiful solo. Following are solos from Marc and guitarist Larry Scala.

For this Paul Dresser classic the band's overall performance is truly vintage providing a sound which this listener's ears associate with a date somewhere between 1929 and the early 1940's.-Matt Chauvin
