Jabbo's Antics

Filmed in France in 1982 featuring Jabbo Smith trumpet, accompanied by the "Hot Antic Jazz Band" consisting of Michel Bastide trumpet & valve trombone, Jean Francois Bonnel clarinet, Gilles Berrut piano, Jean-Pierre Dubois banjo, and Christian Lafevre tuba.

In the late twenties Jabbo Smith and his Rhythm Aces recorded on Brunswick Records in competing with Louis Armstrong's Hot Five on the Okeh label. Ten years later he dropped out of the public eye for many years playing music only part time with a regular day job at a car rental company. Jabbo made a come back during the late 1960's astounding fans and record collectors alike with the fact that he was still alive. He gradually started playing succesfully again and in 1982 Michel Bastide of the "Hot Antic Jazz Band" was able to get Jabbo and organized a concert tour of France and Italy featuring Jabbo.
