Fred Arthur Ahl was born in New York in 1898 and began his musical career working as a song-plugger for various music publishers. As a bandleader he adopted the more common name Hall and recorded prolifically for many labels from 1925 until his last session in 1932. Many of his Orchestra's records featured vocalist Arthur Fields with whom Hall enjoyed a lengthy partnership, co-writing several songs.
