"Kansas City Frank at the Keys"

This piano solo was recorded in Chicago on March 8th 1929 by Frank Melrose, accompanied by unknown drums.

*"Pass The Jug" was composed by Frank Melrose.

Listening to this record one can certainly hear the influence that Jelly Roll Morton had on Frank's playing though he definitely had an original style all his own. It was no secret that he was a big fan of Jelly Roll, whom he frequently encountered at Melrose Publishing in Chicago run by his older brothers Walter and Lester. The two pianists are also reported to have played together from time to time in clubs on the city's South Side.
