Roy Palmer appears here as leader of a group that was also alternately billed at times as the "Memphis Nighthawks".

Born in New Orleans in 1887 Roy Palmer developed a style reminiscent to that of another local trombonist Edward "Kid" Ory. Unlike Ory however his playing produced a raspier tone and HE had originally began his career in music as a guitarist performing as early as 1906.

In 1917 Roy moved to Chicago where he initially worked with Lawrence Duhe's band before going on to make recordings under the direction of legendary bandleaders including Jelly Roll Morton, Johnny Dodds, and Richard M. Jones. Despite already having achieved an impressive discography the trombonist is best remembered for sides cut during the 1930's with the "State Street Ramblers" and the "Memphis Nighthawks".
