This short video explores the stylistic changes and variations in the popular dance called the "Black Bottom" which took place between 1919 and 1927, featuring music performed by the "Bratislava Hot Serenaders".

In the video the year 1919 is represented by DeSylva, Brown, and Henderson's 1926 composition "Black Bottom" demonstrated by an unknown female dancer. The year 1927 on-the-other-hand, features a couple dancing the black bottom and cutting a rug to the tune "That Certain Feeling". These two different variations of the same popular dance are compared here by alternating back and forth between the footage from 1927 and 1919.

Led by trumpeter Juraj Bartoš, the "Bratislava Hot Serenaders" are a vintage orchestra who have specialized in hot jazz of the 1920's and '30's since 1991. Made up of fifteen musicians all dressed in tailor-made tuxedos this band also performs using authentic instruments that were actually manufactured during the 1920's! -For more information about the "Bratislava Hot Serenaders" Click Here.
