Louis Armstrong always said that he was born on July 4th 1900 in New Orleans, a date that has been noted in many biographies. He died in Corona, Queens, New York City on July 6th 1971, but it was not until the mid-1980s that researcher Tad Jones discovered his DOB listed as August 4th 1901 while examining baptismal records from the period.
