"Farewell to Eddie"

In clips taken from the film "The Big Broadcast Of 1932" Bing Crosby sings the popular songs "Dinah" and "Please" accompanied by his favorite guitarist Eddie Lang. The piano heard in the background is that of Lennie Hayton.

Eddie Lang would die the following year on March 26th 1933 from a massive hemorrhage in the recovery room after an (otherwise successful) operation to remove his tonsils. The procedure had been arranged at Bing Crosby's advice to correct a speech impediment so that Eddie could have speaking or even singing parts as a guitar toting co-star in his films. Crosby took Eddie's death particularly hard, blaming himself.
