"Armstrong's Birthday Dispute"

In an historic film segment Louis Armstrong discusses his early career in New Orleans filling in for musicians in local brass bands, explaining how he developed his own style. These brief interviews are accompanied by four historic concert performances.

Louis Armstrong always said that he was born on July 4th 1900 in New Orleans, a date that has been noted in many biographies. He died in Corona, Queens, New York on July 6th 1971, but it was not until the mid-1980's that researcher Tad Jones discovered his true D.O.B. listed as August 4th 1901 on a handwritten note while examining old baptismal records.
