Fate Marable

(December 2nd 1890 - January 16th 1947)

Fate Marable was born in Paducah, Kentucky in 1890 where he learned piano and began leading riverboat bands. Known for playing the steam calliope he began working on the Streckfus Line which had paddlewheelers running between New Orleans, Louisiana and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Remembered as a strict musical director many famous musicians from the Crescent City passed through his bands including Red Allen, Johnny Dodds, Pops Foster, and Louis Armstrong.
