"From Classical to Jazz"

Recorded in Chicago on December 9th 1927 featuring Eddie South violin, vocals, & leader, Clifford King clarinet, bass clarinet, & alto sax, Antonia Spaulding piano, Mike McKendrick guitar, and Jerome Burke drums & vocals.

*"By The Waters Of Minnetonka" was composed by Thurlow Lieurance.

Eddie South (November 27th 1904 - April 25th 1962) was born in Louisiana, Missouri. In his youth he received classical training on the violin when his family moved to Chicago, but soon realized that because he was black, he wasn't going to get anywhere with serious music. He then turned his attentions to jazz and became quite popular through records and radio, spending much of the 1930's touring Europe.
