With the increasing demand for instrumental blues, record companies either hired or organized bands for the sole purpose of producing music. Generic names were created for studio bands owned by the different labels. One such group the "Cotton Pickers" beginning under the leadership of Phil Napoleon, was the catch-all band name used by Brunswick.
