This record was produced in New York City on October 1st 1928 featuring Bubber Miley and Arthur Whetsel trumpets, Joe Nanton trombone, Johnny Hodges clarinet, alto, & soprano sax, Harry Carney clarinet, alto, & baritone sax, Barney Bigard clarinet & tenor sax, Duke Ellington piano, director, & arranger, Fred Guy banjo, Wellman Braud string bass, and Sonny Greer drums.

*"Hot And Bothered" was composed by Duke Ellington.

The "Whoopee Makers" was a pseudonym sometimes used by the "Duke Ellington Orchestra. Unlike other alternate names appropriated by the Duke the "Whoopee Makers" also happened to be the actual name of a working band. In addition it was use as a pseudonym for various groups including those led by Sam Lanin, Adrian Schubert, and one comprised of members of the "Ben Pollack Orchestra".
