From "Starlit Days at the Lido"

This footage featuring Cliff Edwards (aka "Ukulele Ike") performing "Hang On To Me" is taken from the 1935 color experiment film "Starlit Days at the Lido".

The 1935 film "Starlit Days at the Lido" was basically a commercial for Hollywood's Lido Lounge and a small group of stars under contract with MGM.

There is little plot but the relaxed environment of Hollywood's glamorous Lido Lounge, where the picture was filmed on location, did create the prefect setting for some unforgettable performances.

The Lido's manager Reginald Denny acts as the emcee introducing an intriguing array of variety acts as well as different stars in the audience throughout the film.

This scene starring Cliff Edwards (aka "Ukelele Ike") opens with an impressionist doing a pretty convincing impersonation of Jimmy Durante, "Hey Cliff Edwards, Do Your Stuff !", complete with a big fake nose.

"Well of course I'll need a little strength." Ike Responds "Homer!", "Let me have a Hawaiian frappe."

One of the more intriguing aspects of the film occurs while Cliff Edwards is singing and strumming his ukulele. Throughout his performance the blonde woman seated next to him at the bar displays a peculiar "chain smoking" habit, as she keeps mysteriously producing lite cigarettes from various places on his person only to smoke and discard them before repeating the process.
