Singer Annette Hanshaw recorded this song on July 14th 1929 in New York City accompanied by "The New Englanders" a group comprised of Phil Napoleon trumpet, Tommy Dorsey trombone, Jimmy Dorsey clarinet, Frank Signorelli piano, Tony Colucci guitar, Joe Tarto bass, and Stan King drums.

*"True Blue Lou" was composed by Richard Whiting, with lyrics by Leo Robin and Sam Coslow.

The song was featured in the popular Broadway Burlesque "The Dance of Life". The play was adapted for the screen complete with Technicolor sequences, directed by John Cromwell and A. Edward Sutherland. The film version was released by Paramount the same year that this recording was made.
